iOS 10: Learn the New Lock Screen – Part 2
Welcome to ‘Part 2’ of ‘iOS 10: Learn the New Lock Screen’. If you haven’t read ‘Part 1’ in this two-part series, I shared many of the new lock screen features and how to use them. Make sure you check it out here!
In this edition, I’ll continue to navigate the revamped lock screen and highlight new features along the way.
Let’s continue to dive in…
buy isotretinoin from uk How to Access the Updated Control Center
The updated Control Center, which provides direct access to important device settings, is accessible by http://thmiii.com/?p=18 swiping a finger up from the bottom of the lock screen.
Once in the Control Center, you can quickly access everything from common settings and app functions to audio controls and now, with iOS 10, your HomeKit accessories.
You’ll notice that the Control Center now has up to three screens (dots at the bottom of the Control Center indicates how many screens are available). Each screen is accessible by swiping from right to left (and back again).
Depending which device you are using, you’ll see different control offerings — like airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, do not disturb, orientation lock, brightness, AirPlay screen sharing, AirDrop file sharing, flashlight, timer, calculator, camera, Now Playing, and HomeKit.
With 3D Touch (available with the iPhone 6s or newer), you can even set how bright you want the flashlight, how long you want the timer, and calculator and camera options.
How to Access the Notification Center
Just like the Control Center, the Notification Center was available in the previous version of the lock screen. However, some of you may not know where it hides.
The Notifications Center, which provides an overview of alerts from apps, is accessed by swiping a finger down from the top of the lock screen.
To clear a notification, swipe right to left and choose “Clear“. You may batch clear daily notifications by tapping the “X” to the right of the day and then tapping “Clear“. This will save you time, eliminating the need to close notifications one at a time (which can be annoying).
How to Interact with Notifications
Apple is calling the redesigned notification banners that pop up on your lock main screen “rich notifications“, because you don’t have to open an app to interact with them.
Yes, you could interact with notifications since iOS 8, but now Apple has added even more functionality and actions in iOS 10.
Rich notifications are most powerful on 3D Touch-enabled devices (iPhone 6s or newer). You can 3D Touch (press) a notification on the lock screen and you’ll see it pop up. Depending on the notification, you might see 2 to 3 options of interaction.
NOTE: 3D Touch is available in the lock-screen Notification Center too.
How to Interact with Notifications on a Non 3D-Touch Device
If you’re using an older iPhone or an iPad, 3D Touch won’t work for you. To get a similar popup of the notification, you’ll need to swipe left on the notification and tap on “View”.
NOTE: Rich Notifications are available in the lock-screen Notification Center too.
How Do I Remove Lock Screen Views and Functions
If you would like to turn off some or all home-screen views and functions, Apple has your back. But, you’ll need to access the Settings app to do it…
- Unlock your device
- Tap the Settings app
- Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Passcode on older devices)
- Enter your passcode
- Swipe to the Allow Access When Locked section
- Here you have the option to toggle off screen views and functions
To turn off the Control Center on your lock screen you’ll need to head over to the Control Center setting:
- Unlock your device
- Tap the Settings app
- Tap Control Center
- Toggle off Access on Lock Screen
How Do I Disable the Camera on the Lock Screen
Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t provide a setting to turn off the camera on just the lock screen. You can disable the camera, but it is an all-or-nothing result. Meaning, you won’t have access to the camera anywhere on your device and the Camera app will disappear from your home screen.
To turn off the Camera on the lock screen and everywhere else:
- Unlock your device
- Tap the Settings app
- Tap General
- Tap Restrictions and Enable Restrictions
- Enter in a Restrictions Passcode if you have not already created one
- Toggle of Camera
